Between 1927 and 1962, when shipyards in the United States built ocean liners, the nation's top artists had a hand in their public spaces.
Ballrooms and bars, libraries, lounges, and dining rooms showcased murals and sculpture by the likes of Edna Andrade, Helen Bruton, Willem de Kooning, Philip Guston, Sargent Johnson, William King, Gwen Lux, Hildreth Meiere, Bernard Perlin, Anton Refregier, and Jean Woodham.

Among the liners: America, Argentina, the Four Aces, Independence, Lurline, Manhattan, President Jackson, and the United States.
